Christina Andrews runs a private studio in Kent. She trained at Camberwell Art College, completing a 2 year MA in the conservation of art on paper. On leaving she immediately took up a year’s internship at the Tate Gallery in their paper conservation department, working predominantly on the collection of J M W Turner’s watercolour sketches. From there she travelled to Rotterdam to work on an EU funded project surveying and treating the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum’s collection of Italian old master drawings for 8 months.
In 1998 Christina moved to Kent and set up a private studio where she has been working ever since. The majority of her work comes from private clients but she has done work for the Hastings museum and the Rye Art Gallery.
Christina works on the conservation and restoration of all works of art on paper including prints, drawings, watercolours and pastels and also maps. She treats all sorts of problems including foxing spots, water stains, the repair of tears and holes, flattening distorted pictures and reducing the stains caused by sellotape and other pressure sensitive tapes. Not all pictures can be cleaned. Some pigments are very sensitive and there is a danger that they would move to cause stains or disappear altogether during treatment so it is safest not to.
